Robert "Bob" M Carpenter's Obituary
Robert M. "Bob" Carpenter, was born August 19, 1926 to Ella Nora & William Carl Carpenter, in Porter, Okla. He graduated from Muskogee High School & enlisted into the U.S. Army at age 18. Robert served in WWII, Manila, Philippines, a certified sharp shooter & truck machinist, driving, hauling, dumping heavy war equipment into the ocean at the end of the war effort. He returned home, after 2 years of service, with honors & medals such as good conduct. Upon his return stateside, he attended Kansas State Teachers College, and gained employment at the Coffeyville Journal. After 5 years he took an opportunity at Tulsa World & Tribune Newspaper, where he worked & retired after 32 years of service. It was during this time that he met & married his wife of 58 years, Darlene Carpenter. Together they shared the love of family & travel, spending many years creating memories at "the cabin" outside Caney, Kansas, with kids, grandkids, family & friends. They built a beautiful life and traveled the world, creating a love story of their own. Bob enjoyed wood working & became a clock-maker as a hobby. He spent many hours in his workshop building clocks & special pieces for those he loved. His love of tinkering & antiques led to a "barn find" in Kansas, his beloved 1928 Model A Ford, which he brought home & restored to its original glory. He loved giving rumble seat rides & honking the ooga-horn for kids.
He was an old soul, a quiet spirit, extremely gentle & kind. He was funny when he wasn't trying to be and he always kept us laughing with his unexpected humor in a serious moment. He made everything better, everywhere he went.
Bob, Dad, Papa, Uncle Bob, passed away peacefully at home with Darlene by his side, knowing how much he was loved. He is survived by his wife Darlene, children Jana Hill & Travis, Steve Mullin & Gary Cooper, Jamie Carpenter, daughter-in-law Diane Mullin, grandchildren Jamie Wilson, Lora Richmond, Skylar Francen, Hayley Tims, Mason Moyer, Madison Hill, Tyler Hill, & many great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by sons Dennis Mullin, Mark Mullin, & Bill Carpenter.
