Robert Leroy Carroll's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Leroy Carroll, 87 years, 8 months, 25 days entered his heavenly home Saturday, January 12, 2019, from complications from a 5-year battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born April 18, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Charles C. and Gertrude Albritton Carroll. In 1948 Bob joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. He was stationed in Trieste, Italy (of which he often spoke) during the Korean War. Shortly after his discharge in 1952, he was employed by American Airlines in Tulsa for 43 years – retiring in June 1996.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim, Jack, Billy and Paul Carroll; two step-sons, Harrell and Dennis Welch whom he raised as his own; and one grandson, Jamie Keith. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruby Carroll of the home; step-daughter, Bonita Ann Welch Keith Willis; one sister, Betty Starr; one brother, Charles Ralph Carroll; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. After Bob retired, he enjoyed his “me-time” by taking his newspaper and going to Luby’s Cafeteria for coffee and visiting with the guys. And then – Luby’s closed!!! Bob was a special man – a “one-of-a-kind” man. He was kind and loving and this was shown in his being a caretaker to Ruby, family and friends until he was no longer able.A special thank you to the St. John Hospice nurses, caretakers, nieces, and nephews that assisted during Bob’s last days, and to three sisters-in-law and a niece who were always there for the family, and especially to his daughter, Bonita, for all the love and support that she gave him. He was dearly loved by all and will be missed.Services are scheduled Friday, January 18 at 12:30 in the Floral Haven Chapel.Friends to gather at the Floral Haven Family Center after the service from 2pm to 4pm.Visitation on Thursday January 17 from 10:00 to 5:00.
