Robert Irwin Cobb's Obituary
Robert Irwin, born January 9, 1921, in Hammond, IN was ultimately healed on September 23, 2008. Bob loved sports and was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship in track and football to Drake University in Des Moines, IA. After serving as a pilot in the Army Air Corps in WWII he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He worked for Armstrong Tire and Rubber in Des Moines, IA for over 20 years and later for Braden Winch in Broken Arrow from 1966 to 1984, when he retired, Bob pursued excellence in everything he did but never at the expense of others and valued their success as much as his own. He was recognized for his honesty, integrity and fairness whether on the athletic playing field, in business or in his personal life. He met Luene Mallett at Drake University and they married on February 11, 1944, in a snowstorm. He spent 64 wonderful years adoring his bride and being thankful for the love of his life. Bob and Luene have 3 children who remember their father as patient, wise and devoted. All three children followed in their parent’s footsteps and attended Drake University where Bob and Luene were named Parents of the Year in 1966. Bob was a devoted man of God who exemplified Christian service in all activities in his life, He never wanted to be in the limelight but steadfastly worked to give of himself to others. He is survived by: his wife, Luene Cobb of Tulsa, OK; brother, James M. Cobb of Rockaway, NJ; daughter, Lauretta J. Rigler of Albuquerque, NM; son, Larry R. Cobb and his wife Becky of Waukee, IA; son, Charles R. Cobb, MD of Tulsa, OK; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched.
