Jones, Robert Stanley's Obituary
Robert Stanley Jones Junior (Stan) was born on Whidbey Island off the coast of Washington on February 29, 1952 to Vinita Clyde Ramey Jones and Robert Stanley Jones.
He spent his early years in the Delta of Mississippi until he moved to Whitehaven, Tennessee in the summer of 1966, just in time to see the Beatles in August. In the matter of just two weeks, he developed friendships with boys who would remain close to him the remainder of his life. Even in high school he was a true southern gentleman, perhaps due to his family's long history in Oxford, Mississippi. He graduated from Memphis State University in May 1974 with a degree in business. While attending the university, Stan became a founding member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity on campus. After graduation, Stan went into banking, moving to Midland, Texas to begin his career. He became interested in financial investments and started his career as a stockbroker at Stevens Inc, in Little Rock, Arkansas. There he became an acquaintance of then governor Bill Clinton, who often stopped by his office to chat, he was also able to meet Presidents Reagan and Bush Sr.
In 1995 Stan moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri where he met the love of his life Carol. They were introduced by mutual church friends who had thoughtfully planned to bring them together.
After spending a few years in Poplar Bluff, his knowledge of stocks and bonds led to I'm becoming the Comptroller for the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. A mild stroke allowed Stan to retire two years earlier than anticipated. During his retirement, Stan truly lived life to the fullest, finding genuine happiness, peace and contentment in every moment, as he embraced each day with a heart full of gratitude and satisfaction.
Stan, a beloved member of the community and First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow, found great joy in his Sunday school class, where he built strong bonds with fellow members and grew in his spiritual journey. Stan had a deep appreciation for nature and loved spending time outdoors, especially in his yard, where he could be found planting and enjoying all of Gods creations. His love for nature was rooted in the time he spent at his childhood home in Mt. Home, Arkansas, where he developed a lifelong passion for the beauty of the outdoors.
Stan had a passion for the arts. He loved music, visual arts and design. He also had a passion for traveling and creating lasting memories with loved ones and those closest to him. He treasured time with his friends and family, his love and devotion were evident in every moment he spent with them. He spared no words in expressing his love to those around him. He loved to greet strangers and deepen his relationships with those he held close to his heart.
About three years ago, he began a weight training and overall fitness regimen that he maintained right up until the end.
Stan's spirit, kind heart and love will be remembered by all who knew and remembered him. He left behind a rich legacy of love, faith and cherished memories.
Stan passed away on Saturday afternoon, October 5, 2024 of pneumonia and other complications, surrounded by his family.
