Robert D. 'Bob' Lewis
Retired newspaper editor and public relations executive Robert D. "Bob" Lewis has put a -30- (the journalistic symbol for "the end") on his last story, bringing to a close a career in mass communications that spanned more than 60 years.
Bob went to live with God on February 16, 2025. Services officiated by Pastor Joe Cook will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday February 27, 2025 at Floral Haven.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil M. and Dorothy G. Lewis, his wife, LaVerne V. Lewis and son David B. Lewis. He is survived by his daughter, Dianna Lewis of the home, grandchildren Bridget Goodacre and her husband Nathan and Eric Lewis and his wife Kimberly, four great grandsons, Eric Lewis II, Ethan Lewis, Caiden Goodacre and Eli Goodacre and great granddaughter Elliana Roselen Lewis all from Broken Arrow.
Bob was born on Feb. 25, 1943, in Bay City, Michigan. A 1961 graduate of Will Rogers High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Tulsa and a certificate in financial public relations from New York University.
He launched his career at the Tulsa World as a reporter and assistant oil editor before moving into the public relations field where he served both at the corporate and agency levels. He was named Northeast Oklahoma's Public Relations Professional of the Year in 1995 and owned and operated his own firm, RDL Public Relations, before returning to the newspaper industry as managing editor of the Broken Arrow Ledger.
When asked to summarize his life, Lewis said, "I have been blessed with a great family and the chance to work with and for people I like and admire. It has been quite a ride."
