Robert Dean Moore's Obituary
Robert “Bob” Dean Moore, our loving husband and father, and faithful
friend to so many passed away in his home on Saturday March 28, 2020 at
the age of 81. He was born January 24,1939 in Hatfield, Missouri to
Kenneth and Lucille Moore and had a joy-filled childhood playing and
working on farms in northern Missouri with his brother and sisters.
He graduated from high school in Bethany, Missouri, enlisted in the Army
Reserves and began a twenty year career with Hallmark Cards in Kansas
City. On a shared ride home from work, he met his lifelong love, Deloris
“Dee” Sturgeon. They married in 1958, started a family and built a
remarkable life together. In 1976, he talked Dee into an adventure of
moving the family to Wyoming where he started a concrete construction
company and then worked as a pipeliner and controller at BP/Amoco for 22
years which included moves to Denver and then Tulsa.
After retirement, he filled his days gardening in his yard, cooking breakfast
for the weekly men’s Bible study at church, spending lots of time with
grandkids, and taking one more brief adventure to live in Surprise, Arizona.
Bob’s life was one of extraordinary ability to encourage and help others. He
loved serving as usher and coffeemaker at church, coaching his sons’
baseball teams, helping a neighbor with a concrete project or calling friends
just to catch up. He and Dee welcomed foster children into their home in
Missouri and Wyoming, sometimes with 14 people living under one roof.
We estimate they fostered more than 90 children over 21 years.
His life was also one of big-hearted fun and he made friends wherever he
went. Friends and family know him as devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, out
west road tripper, avid history and Louie L’Amour reader, bowling buddy,
fudge maker, morning whistler, classroom yodeler, and western movie
lover.
All this wonderful life was shaped and guided by a deep, honest and visible
faith in Christ. He believed in God’s goodness and shared it with others
often. Even in the most difficult seasons, he carried himself with an eternal
optimism that translated “it’s going to be ok.”
He is survived by his loving wife, Deloris; son Terry (Jackie); son, Doug
(Penny); daughter, Denise McKinney (Gary); daughter, Tami Dillon
(Jeremy); foster daughters Wendy Wells and DeShawn Schmidt (Curtis);
sisters Elizabeth Carter (Ed) and Carol Coulson; grandchildren, Sabrina
Cady, Joshua Moore, Chandra Males, Sandra Moore, Travis Jobe, Lanie
McKinney, Ashley Dillon, Keleigh Dillon, and Garrison McKinney; and eight
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and
Lucille, brother, Richard and sister, Marilyn Calligan.
Bob will be remembered and celebrated for his selfless service to others,
constant care for family—always wanting everyone there, and being a one
man cheering section for his kids and grandkids. His was a standout love
as husband, father and friend and it was given in our lives every time it
mattered.
Due to the current crisis caused by the Coronavirus, there will a private
