Robert Joseph Murphy's Obituary
Mr. Murphy was born November 7, 1922, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He and his wife Gladys were married at Christ the King Church on January 24, 1953. They have two daughters, Melinda Postoak and Mary Churchill. Both families live in the Tulsa area.
Mr. Murphy received his formal education in Missouri before joining the US Navy in 1943. His Air Group 83 was assigned to the USS Essex aircraft carrier. They participated in three battle campaigns in the Pacific Theater WWII. After being discharged from the Navy, he continued his education at Missouri University.
In 1951, he was employed by Mid Continent Petroleum which later became Sunray DX and Sunoco. During his tenure, he held various managerial jobs in marketing and manufacturing before retiring in December 1982. These assignments entailed several moves before returning to Tulsa in 1967. He passed away on August 8, 2021.
He is survived by his children: Melinda Postoak; and Mary, and her husband Don, Churchill; grandkids Brandi, and husband Bryan, Edelman; Joe and wife Jayme, Baker; Brett, and wife Erin, Murphy; Erica, and Jared, Lewis; Brittney, and Keith, Lervig; Ashley, and husband Kevyn, Gray; Caitlin, and husband Avery, Barrett; great-grandkids, Taylor Edelman, Caleb Edelman, Anthony Lewis, Emma Baker, Abby Edelman, Jordan Lewis, Reagan Murphy, Flynn Murphy, Riley Lervig, Logan Gray, and baby boy Barrett; and a host of other family and friends that will forever miss him.
He is reunited with his wife Gladys Murphy, his parents Robert and Mary Murphy, and all of his siblings, who passed before him.
