Robert "Bob" Lee Newgent's Obituary
Robert “Bob” Lee Newgent, 88, was born on November 8th, 1937, in Greencastle, Indiana to Robert Hiram Newgent and June Sevilla Newgent (Cummings).
Bob departed this life on May 25th, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by his family after months of illness.
Bob married the love of his life Virginia Sue, September 10th, 1962. Bob and Sue were married for 53 years before her passing on March 28th, 2016. Together, they shared a love of travel, especially to Aruba.
Bob retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant after honorably serving over 23 years on active duty. After serving his nation, bob worked for Occidental Petroleum where he later retired after another 20-year career. He lived and breathed computers and data systems at both jobs. Especially in the Air Force where he helped develop the doppler weather radar that is still used today. Bob always enjoyed building and programming computers. In his prime, there was nothing he did not know about the windows operating system. He loved to know the what, how, and why’s about every electronic he has ever owned! He would essentially “break” his own computer just to rebuild it to give him something to do.
In the chapter of life often reserved for rest, travel, and time for oneself, Bob and Sue answered life’s greatest calling when they stepped in to raise and care for their beloved granddaughter, Ashley. With unwavering love, patience, and strength, he devoted himself fully to giving her guidance, stability, and a home filled with compassion. His selflessness and dedication became one of the greatest expressions of his character, and the bond they shared was a source of immense pride and joy throughout his life.
Bob is survived by his Children, Patrick Newgent and wife Tina; Laurie Newgent, Tony Mark and wife Rhonda;
Grandchildren: Ashley Burns and husband Justin, Katelyn Strathe and husband Brandon, Ryan Newgent, Holly Newgent, Andrea Self and husband Brandon; Robert Mark; and other extended family.
Great Grandchildren: Braylon, Allie, Logan and 3 more on the way in the coming months.
He is preceded in death by his Spouse Virgina Sue; Parents Robert H. and June S. Newgent; Sisters Mary Ann Etcheson and Roberta Hopkins as well as their spouses; Child James Mark; Nephews Mark and Robin Hopkins; and other family members.
Bob was the most stubborn and hardheaded man most people have ever met but he loved with his whole heart and was always there to help if he was able. He has now been relieved from pain and suffering and has been reunited with the love of his life which is all any of us could ever ask for. He was very loved and will be missed greatly. God broke the mold when he was made. There will never be anyone like him.
