Robert Roy Stephens' Obituary
Robert Roy (Bob) Stephens passed away Tuesday, January 17, at the age of 91. He was born the youngest of five children to Walter H and Ida Mae (Young) Stephens on October 1, 1931 in Chouteau, Oklahoma. He married Barbara Evelyn Mason of Boatman, Oklahoma on February 22, 1953. He is survived by Evelyn, his son Denny, and his daughter Denise (Mark) Hanoch.
Bob entered the Navy in January of 1951 and transferred to the Air Force in February of 1956. He retired from the Air Force in 1972 after a distinguished career as Hospital Food Service Director and Air Force Recruiter, winning multiple commendations and awards. He then became Food Service Director at Hillcrest Medical Center where he served until he retired to his farm in Skiatook in 1987.
Bob pulled himself up by his bootstraps and provided well for his family. Bob was known for working hard at each of his military assignments and civilian jobs, significantly improving operations and staff conditions at each. Bob was also known for his love of gardening and of raising cattle, catfish, and other farm animals. Bob and Evelyn enjoyed traveling, while living in France and Turkey during military service, and later traveling the US in their RV.
A Memorial Service for Bob will be held Friday, February 24, 2023 at 10 am in the theater at University Village Retirement Center, 8555 S Lewis Ave, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
