Robert Harlyn Treadwell's Obituary
readwell, Robert Harlyn,87, died on November 18, 2009 at the Circle Of Life Hospice Home in Springdale, AR. He was born on August 28, 1922 in Talladega, AL to James D. and Hazel Treadwell but grew up in Muskogee,OK. He attended college in Grove City, PA and at the Tulsa University. He served as a Corporal in the Army Air Corps during WWII where he was stationed in the Pacific for 4 years. He was picked to serve a special mission that enabled General MacArthur to land in Japan and sign the Peace Treaty that ended the war. He worked at American Airlines in Tulsa for 35 years retiring in 1984 as Supervisor of Safety and Maintenance for the DC-10, 727 and 747 commercial jets. During the late 60’s he worked for NASA and wrote a safety manual for the first Space Shuttle mission. After retiring, he continued to work as a Personal Aviation Consultant for 9 years, helping many global airlines update their Safety Programs and Guidelines. He was an active Methodist layman and served as Chairman for the Methodist Committee for Overseas Relief in the 1950’s and was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Doris (Gene) Treadwell, brother, James D. Treadwell and sister, Evelyn Lamons.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimers’ Association. Funeral Services were held 2:00 PM, Friday, November 20, 2009 at Asbury United Methodist Church.Survived By: by a daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Steven Unruh of Springdale, AR, a son, David C. Treadwell of Tulsa, and 3 loving grandchildren, Harlyn Unruh of Tulsa, Hayley Unruh of Springdale, and David G. Treadwell of Tulsa.
