Robert Eugene Vernon's Obituary
Robert Eugene (Bob) Vernon, 75, Tulsa, OK. completed his last earthly marathon and crossed the finish line into Heaven Wednesday January 13, 2010. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years and the caring nurses from Sol Amor Hospice and Rolling Hills Care Center where he lived with Alzheimers disease for the past few months. Bob was born July 22, 1934 in Oklahoma City, OK to Bob Craven Vernon and Bessie Mae Vernon and he had nine older siblings; Eloise Fore, Mozelle Polly Barrett, Ed Vernon, Emery Vernon, Sylvia Shelby, Bassill Vernon, Donald Vernon, Mary Lena Bomhak and Harold Dean Vernon, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his only son Bobby Neal Vernon. He married his life partner and best friend Barbara Jean Parkerson October 31, 1952 at Dickson Baptist Church, Oklahoma City. Bob began his lifelong career at ONG/ONEOK May of 1952 as a meter reader B in Oklahoma City and retired 44 years later as General Manager Customer Service/Accounting in Tulsa. He was an exceptional athlete making Allstate in basketball and baseball at Choctaw high school, ran several marathons, participated in Freewheel, taught his grandsons how to ski and had two holes in one. He served as President for the Sertoma and Kiwanis clubs and coached little league baseball. Bob was able to live at home for over 12 years with Alzheimer’s thanks to his loving wife as his primary caregiver and with the unselfish help of his nephew LeRoy Fore. The family would like to thank the staff at the Tulsa Alzheimer’s Association, friends and family who volunteered their time and the caring nurses from Rolling Hills Care Center and Sol Amor Hospice. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. A celebration of Bob’s life is planned for 11:00 AM February 16th, 2010 at Dickson Baptist Church in Spencer, OK. In lieu of flowers please make donations to your local Alzheimer’s Association, OMRF or Bessie Vernon Library Fund at Dickson Baptist Church, Spencer, OK.Survived By: his wife Barbara, daughters Debbie Vernon-Weeks and husband Bill, Oklahoma City, OK.; Cindy Vernon, Gallatin, TN.; Grandsons Jeremy Morrill and wife Jenny and their three sons Brendan, Nate and Kade Robert, Murfreesboro, TN.; Eric Morrill and his two daughters Cheyenne and Maddie, Gallatin, TN. and his faithful four-legged walking companions Leia and Thumper.
