Robert H Weber's Obituary
Weber, Robert H, completed his earthy residence, departing this life on July 17, 2024, at age 99. Born August 8, 1924, to Rev. Henry R. Weber (H.R.) and Martha Gertsch Weber at Platte Center, Nebraska. His early years were spent in various communities throughout Nebraska where his father served with the Evangelical Church which merged with the United Brethern Church and then with the United Methodist Church. These were the years America was in the depths of the Great Depression and from this environment a generation surfaced with values of patriotism, honest work ethic, recognition of spiritual values, family, thrift, appreciation and thankfulness, and most of all persistence, determination and hope for the future. Americans carried these values into World War II.
Robert entered military service in WWII serving as Navy Medical Corpsman with the Second Marine Division during the Saipan, Tinian, Le Shima and Okinawa campaigns - -Asiatic Pacific – 2 Stars. He was an assault medic on four beach landings, reacting under tremendous pressure to save his fellow soldiers lives. Early in 1945, Robert was selected for a special detachment to invade La Shima, a small inside off Okinawa to seize its airfield. This was the island where Ernie Pyle, noted news correspondent, was killed on April 18, 1945
Roberts final combat was with the 2nd Marine Division at Okinawa prior to the atomic bombing of Japan. The kamikaze attacks were very active during their landing on Okinawa. Following military service he married Marjorie Dale Klima on September 8, 1946.
Marjorie and Bob moved from Denver to Tulsa in August 1962 when Bob joined North American Aviation to work on the Apollo Moon Landing Program. One month later in September, they celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary dancing. To this union two children were born, daughter Jeanne Collado of Santander Spain and son Dr. Randy Weber of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and now resides in Nichols Hills Oklahoma City Oklahoma.
Robert attended University of Nebraska, University of Kansas City (now UMKC) with special training at Air Force Institute of Technology, School of Systems and Logistics, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. His working career included aerospace at the dawn of space exploration working on various missile programs, Apollo moon landing, Space Shuttle, military and commercial aircraft. He retired from Boeing North American Rockwell April 12, 1996, where he served as Contract Advisor and performed as official liaison representative with the Military and Government in matters of internal audits for compliance with prime contract flow down requirements at the sub-contract level. He was active in the National Association of Purchasing Management and was awarded the Certificate of Purchasing Management (CPM) designation. He participated in panel discussion groups at the Business Department of Tulsa University.
He was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church and was elected to the position of Deacon Emeritus in recognition of more than 54 years of faithful service to the Kingdom of God.
He is survived by his daughter Jeanne Collado of Santander Spain, her husband Jesus of 50 plus years. Their son David Collado and his wife Marta and 3 great grandchildren. His son Dr. Randy Weber of Nichols Hills, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, his wife Jana of 50 plus years. Their daughter Tricia Hasty, and husband Kevin and two great grandchildren. Their son Brian and wife Chelsea, and 2 great grandchildren and their son Creighton Weber.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at Memorial Baptist Church, 2800 South Yale, Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday 11:00 AM August 1st, for a recognition of Roberts life
Public graveside service for burial of the cremains will be held the Heim Family Cemetery, Dawson, Nebraska. A full military honor guard will lay Robert to rest next to his wife Marjorie.
The inurnment will be during the annual gathering celebrating 150 years of the extended family’s settlement in the South East corner of Nebraska. The families have maintained the original farmhouse of the Heim family and have built a distinguished museum of history for the family. The ceremony will be held August 3, Saturday, 2-4 PM at The Heim Cemetery.
