Roger Max Benton's Obituary
Roger Max Benton, 88 of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma passed away at home Wednesday, March 29, 2023.
He was born August 11, 1934 in Fox, Oklahoma to Earl and Rose Benton.
Roger took part in many activities during his school years including football, basketball, singing in the school choir and participating in school plays. He graduated from Dundee High School in 1952 with many honors.
Following high school, he attended The University of Oklahoma graduating in 1957 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. His first job was in Louisiana, working for Magnolia Oil Company. He worked there for three years before moving to Tulsa where he went to work for Industrial Fabricating Company and then for Heat Transfer Equipment where he was employed as Vice President of Sales until his retirement.
Roger accepted Jesus into his life at a young age and was a member of Brookside Baptist Church and then Woodland Acres Baptist Church where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. He made many lifelong friends that he enjoyed being around whether it was lunch after church, game night at the house or traveling together on vacation.
His hobbies included reading, photography, learning new computer skills including designing personal birthday cards for family and friends, fishing, camping, and any kind of travel, especially taking cruises.
More than anything his family was the most important part of his life and he wanted to be around them as much as possible.
Roger was preceded in death by grandson Shane Golden, parents Earl & Rose Benton, brothers Billy Earl, Jerry Pat and Jimmy and sisters Betty Walker and Linda Penny.
He is survived by his bride of 68 years Pat Benton, four children; Susan Ashpaugh and husband Brad, Janet Benton and husband Todd Bazata, Jon Benton and Amy Golden; Brother Michael Benton; Grandchildren Brandon Ashpaugh and wife Asako, Braxie Bixler, Brittney Ashpaugh, Sean Benton and Jessica, Chelse Benton, Sarah Golden and Jacob Golden; Great Grandchildren Landon Ashpaugh, Mattilyn Bixler and Jaxon Davis; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Floral Haven, Sunday, April 2, 2023 11:00am – 5:00pm. Family will be present 3:00-5:00pm.
Services will be Monday, April 3, 2023. Burial at Floral Haven will be at 1:00pm followed by a Celebration of Life service at Woodland Acres Baptist Church (5511 S. Harvard Ave, Tulsa, OK) at 2:30pm.
