Roger "Wayne" Hunter's Obituary
Roger "Wayne" Hunter, 84, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 21, 1940, in Fairland, Oklahoma, to Alfred Hunter and Lorene Huffaker (French), Wayne's life was a testament to his deep love for family and his passion for living fully.
Wayne married the love of his life, Carol Hunter, and together they built a family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Wayne prioritized spending time with his family, fostering close relationships through shared activities and traditions.
He had a passion for building and racing cars, a hobby he shared with his sons, David and Rodney. Known as the "Crew Chief," Wayne's leadership and dedication turned this hobby into a family affair, where they spent 26 years building, racing, and showcasing cars. These moments created bonds and memories treasured by all who were involved.
Wayne’s love extended beyond his children to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored. He found great joy in cheering them on in their sporting events, particularly baseball, earning the beloved nickname "Papa Great." His pride in their accomplishments was matched only by his delight in welcoming the newest generations into the family, including his first great-great-great-grandchild.
Wayne is survived by his loving children: David and Tresa, Rodney and fiancée Ann Marie, Lori and Mitch, Jeanie and Jeremy, and his daughter-in-law Tammy. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Hunter, his parents, and his dad, Max Huffaker.
Wayne's legacy of love, kindness, and family unity will continue to shine through the lives of those he cherished.
