Roger Eugene Kaufmann's Obituary
Roger Allyn Kaufmann February 1, 1927 – September 18, 2015Roger was born in Louisville, Kentucky on February 1, 1927 to Mary Allyn and Ralph Kaufmann. He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he attended Will Rogers High School, graduating in 1944. That same year he entered the U.S. Navy in the V-5 program. During his service, he attended Louisiana Tech and Duke University. After an injury while playing basketball at Duke, he was discharged and returned to Louisiana Tech. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and was president of his Senior Class. Following graduation, he married Helen Ford of Ruston, Louisiana on June 5, 1947, and they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he joined Standard Oil & Gas Company – then a subsidiary of Standard Oil Company of Indiana – which later became Amoco Corporation. With Amoco, Roger took on various assignments in the U.S. and for five years work in Trinidad in the West Indies. Following his return to the states, he worked at Amoco Corporation headquarters in Chicago. He the went to Englewood, Colorado, where he assisted in the formation of a new subsidiary – Amoco Minerals Company – which wa later spun-off to form Cypress Amax. He served as Vice President Human Resources and Administration under contract from Amoco to Cypress. Roger retired from both companies in 1987 and moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas. He was on the advisory board of the Bank of Bentonville, Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Board during his final year. He also served as Chairman of Bella Vista Village and the Architectural Control Committee for six years. Roger belonged to the Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce and was active member of Bella Vista Community Church – serving on many committees. Roger and wife, Helen moved back to the Tulsa area in 2004. He is survived by wife, Helen, two sons, Mike Kaufmann (and wife Betty) and Russell Kaufmann (and wife Amanda), three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A celebration of life memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015, at the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
