Roger Allen Pratt (a.k.a. Best Dad Ever!) was a much-loved dad, grandpa, uncle, and friend, who passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2023, at the age of 86.
Roger was born October 5, 1936, in Rochester, New York to Charles and Daisy Pratt. He proudly grew up in “the hills” of Arkansas, as he called it (Knoxville, Lamar, Mountain Home). Roger later moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he made lifelong friends and memories and began rooting for the Cleveland Browns (even when they were kinda blah). Roger married Sally Chinn on January 22nd, 1977 in Kansas City, Missouri. They made their home in Columbia, Missouri for many years, where they raised two incredibly smart and remarkably funny daughters.
Roger taught his girls hard work and dedication during his 36-year career as an Electronic Technician for the U.S. Gov’t and National Weather Service. His career took him to places like Juno, AK and Las Vegas, NV. Visits with Roger often included a cool story about working in the desert or working at the Nevada Test Site where nuclear bombs were tested. When he wasn’t working hard for Uncle Sam, he kept busy helping friends and family through his Tiger Tax small business. Roger was a computer expert (when computer and electronic usage still required a good amount of intelligence) and would custom build computers when most others were still trying to figure out how to use one! Roger could also always be found tinkering with tools outside. Roger, like his brother Walt, enjoyed working with wood. Consider yourself lucky if you ever received one of Roger’s beautiful clocks made from a tree trunk slice.
Roger was known for his strong Christian faith and love for Jesus. He was a member of South Tulsa Baptist Church, always had a Bible by his side and always made the effort to tune in to the live stream services.
Roger was also known for sense of humor and his "Rogerisms" – such as “fine as frog’s fuzz”, “cornbread, molasses and sassafras tea” and “drive cheerfully!” Memories of these familiar words will bring smiles to many for years to come!
Roger lived the last eleven years of his life at Senior Star at Burgundy Place Retirement Community in Tulsa where he made many good friends over the years and got to sit back, enjoy the good life, and spend time swapping stories with the guys! Big thanks go to the wonderful associates at Burgundy Place who helped create such a wonderful, loving place for Roger to call home.
Roger was greeted in heaven by his parents, his brothers Joe, Charles and Walter, his sister Mary and his wife Sally and his first wife Agnes Ann. He is survived by his two daughters, Deidre Pratt of Columbia, MO and Sonya Pratt of Broken Arrow, OK and his granddaughter, Lillie Pratt of Columbia, MO. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews, his sister-in-laws Henriette Pratt of Oklahoma City, OK and family and Cathy Smith of Centralia, Missouri and family. Roger was loved by nearly everyone he met and always had a kind word and friendly smile to share - along with those pretty blue eyes!
