Rosamay C. Nelson's Obituary
Rosamay is the eldest child George W. (Nick) Carter and Della May Carter. Her brother was Eugene and Irene (deceased) was her only sister. Father, Nick, was a mail carrier in Tulsa for 30 years. Rosamay was slated for the class of 1936 at Central High School where the passed and Not passed system was tried unsuccessfully for 2 years. Her senior year in High School she was valedictorian. She worked as a rate clerk for Joe Hodges Transportation and at the Mid Continent Petroleum Company. She became excellent at reading and quoting tariffs. In 1945 she married Paul Nelson from Michigan. Paul studied voice in New York City from a Vienna couple. Upon Army discharge Paul and Rosamay moved to New York where Paul studied and coached vocal studies. Rosamay worked at the Hanscom Bakery which was the forerunner of Sara Lee. After a 6 year study they decided to move back to Oklahoma to Tulsa, Rosamay’s home town. In celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary they took a 21 day trip to Scandinavian countries; Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and St. Petersburg, Russia by train, plane and boat. Rosamay remained in tariffs and learned to read rail tariffs working for CE&I Railroad in an off line position. With the knowledge she gained she became the President of the Woman’s Traffic Club. She was appointed honorary Lt. Governor by Governor Nigh. Socially she became Noble Grand of the Tulsa Rebekah Lodge where the lodge team won memory contests against the Oklahoma City Rebekah’s!Being childless, Paul and Rosamay adopted a six year old boy to make their lives complete. Rosamay is survived by her son Dale (Nancy) Nelson, 3 Grandchildren and 8 Great grandchildren.
