Rose Anna Higdon's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rose Anna Higdon, affectionately known as “Rosie”, she was born on April 13, 1942, in Okemah, Oklahoma, and departed this world on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, from Inola, Oklahoma, with her loving family by her side.
Her husband, Wayne Higdon preceded her in death as well as her parents, VE (Bud) Burnett and Selva Burnett.
Rosie's siblings: Doug Deere, David Walkup, Edna Davidson, Barbara Fisher, Johnny Burnett, Judy Benedict.
Rosie was extremely proud of her children, Jennifer Higdon and husband Brian, and Bill and wife Camille. She was a wonderful mother and loved her children dearly. She was the best mother, and mother-in-law that any child could ask for. She said her children were the greatest thing she'd ever had in her life. She spoke of them often, even though her battle with dementia they were always first in her thoughts.
Rosie was a talented seamstress who sewed costumes for Tulsa Ballet, wedding gowns, medieval garb, and western shirts. She also designed and sewed outfits for many square dance clubs. If someone could dream it, Rose could sew it. She was an excellent cook and loved making Christmas Candy for everyone. An invite to any holiday meal cooked by Mama Rosie was always hoped for and eagerly accepted, and of course everyone was welcome! She lived in her home in Tulsa from 1970 until 2021. She helped her husband, Wayne, start and run his own business, which she took over after he passed away.
Rosie bought her first new car in 2012, and she really loved that car. She was so proud to have earned it herself. She so loved her little dog, Skeeter Bug, who was her constant companion through the COVID years. Skeeter was one other constant that Rosie remembered through her entire ordeal with her illness, always calling out for her beloved baby dog. She cared for everyone all her life. Her own needs were always put aside so that she could help others. She was incredibly generous with her time and resources when anyone needed help. She always found a way to help, regardless of the cost to her personally. She was everyone's "soft place to fall".
In 2020, Rose was diagnosed with Dementia. In 2021, she moved to Inola, to live next door to her son, Bill, and his wife Camille. She remained in her new home until she passed away. She is free now, from the fear and pain, and the world is a darker place without her.
Donations to the Alzheimer's Association would be welcome.
