Roy Louis DeBose's Obituary
Roy Louis DeBose was born in Clarksville, Oklahoma on August 25, 1950. He passed from this world on October 30, 2023, in Fort Worth, TX with his loving family by his side.
Roy gave his life to Jesus and was baptized as a child at St. Andrew Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1968 and from Okmulgee Technical School in 1970. Roy married Debbie Ruggles in 1989 in Abilene, Texas. He was a servant-hearted man with a keen sense of humor often seen only by his immediate family. Roy spent most of his career as a bus driver for the Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority and for school districts in Texas and Oklahoma. He was a lifetime Dallas Cowboys football fan and loved sports of all kinds. He played baseball both in high school and at Okmulgee Tech, and later spent many years as a baseball umpire in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Abilene, Texas; Boise, Idaho; and Fort Worth, Texas. He loved fishing, playing card games and dominoes, and working crossword puzzles. He will be laid to rest in the Floral Haven Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Roy is preceded in death by his Great Grandmother, Daisy Walker; Grandmother (or Mother as he called her), Myrtle Haynes; Mom, Rosella DeBose; Sister, Carolyn Sue Skinner, and In-Laws, Bob and Marvel Ruggles.
He is survived by his loving Wife, Debbie Ruggles of Fort Worth, Texas, his Children: Valentina McDade and husband Link, and Shawn DeBose of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Dr. Lauren DeBose of Hurst, Texas; and Jordan DeBose of Chicago, Illinois; Grandchildren Tailyr, Trinity, and Zion DeBose, and Makayla McDade of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Shawn DeBose Jr. and wife, Maddie, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Great Grandchild, Princeton DeBose of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Siblings: Dorothy Ann DeBose, John Cole DeBose, Donald Ray DeBose, David Wayne DeBose, and wife, Kim, Monica Lynn Whiteside and husband, Rodrick, and Latricia Renee DeBose of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Annetta May DeBose of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a myriad of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, at Floral Haven Funeral Home: 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
Anyone wishing to send flowers may do so by ordering through our website or by calling Floral Designs by Floral Haven at (918) 459-1525. Any other florists may deliver flowers by 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in order for them to be properly displayed during visitation.
A funeral service to honor the life of Roy will be held at 12:30 PM the following day, Friday, November 10, 2023, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel: 6500 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK 74012. Interment will follow immediately after conclusion of the chapel service at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Devotion.
A reception will be held once interment concludes from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Floral Haven's Family Center. Roy's family would like to warmly extend an invitation to anyone wishing to attend the reception in order to continue fellowship and sharing of memories. The Floral Haven Family Center is also located at Floral Havel Funeral Home, 6420 S 129th E Ave, Broken Arrow, OK 74012.
