Roy Shell III's Obituary
November 4, 2017, Roy Shell III, died peacefully after battling Parkinson’s in Tulsa, OK, at the age of 74.Roy was born July 18, 1943, in San Diego, CA, to Lois and Roy Shell Jr. His father was an OU graduate and a pharmacist who served in the U.S. Navy. His mother was an OSU graduate and school teacher. As a youth, he was a Boy Scout and played the trumpet in the Edison High School marching band. He graduated from Edison in 1961. He attended the University of Tulsa majoring in History and Political Science obtaining both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in 1966. He attended the University of Oklahoma, completing graduate classes in counseling.Roy began working for the State of Oklahoma in 1968 as a counselor for the Oklahoma Employment Service. He worked for the State of Oklahoma for 39 years. He fondly remembered he was fortunate to work with many talented people of the highest character.Roy is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Lee; his daughter, Dr. Andrea Williams and her husband, Mark; his son, Roy “Curt” Shell IV and his wife, Amber; daughter-in-law, Shelly Shell; and stepchildren, Kenneth Joe Apple and Cindy Scullard; his sister, Patricia Martin and her husband, March. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Cortni, Kaigan, Natalie, Caitlyn, Jett, Gus, Kylie, Chloe, Buck, Heidi and Cutter; and 2 great-grandsons, Jace and Max.He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Patrick Roy Shell; his granddaughter, Chelsey Amber Shell; his great-grandson, Bennett Jett Patrick Shell.His children remember him as a loving father who encouraged them to pursue their education. He loved OU football and fishing. His family was the light of his life and he was a devoted father and grandfather.Visitation will take place at Floral Haven Thursday, November 9, from 4-8 p.m. Roy’s funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, November 10, at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow.
