Ruby A. Gilbert's Obituary
Ruby Alyene Gilbert was born in Stilwell, Oklahoma, December 4, 1924. She entered Heaven’s gates to join her late husband, Jack, on May 29, 2016. Ruby came to Tulsa at the age of 17. She was employed by McDonnell Douglas (Rosie the Riveter), Dunn & Bradstreet, and the Tulsa Tribune. Ruby also enrolled in and completed classes at Draughons Business Institute in 1945 in Secretary Science. Ruby had a passion for cooking, especially in baking pies, cakes and breads. Over the years, she collected a large library of cook books, where many times you would find her at the kitchen table with a stack she was reading through. She also loved to watch food and cooking channels. She also had a green thumb when it came to plants. She loved growing herbs and flowers. Ruby was a long time dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church here in Tulsa, where she and Jack were lifelong members of the Beacon Class. They also taught children’s Sunday School and helped in the kitchen for the Youth Fellowship. Ruby was a homemaker while her three children were young and after they became older, she was involved in direct sales ventures. After some years, she developed a successful business and worked up until retirement. Ruby is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jackson C. Gilbert. She was also predeceased by her brother, T.A. Shell and her parents Jess and Ella (Ketcher) Shell. Ruby is survived by her sister Clealus (“Tude”) Hardin, her daughters, Carolyn Smith and husband Greg, Teresa Zachary and husband Larry, and her son Duane Gilbert. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jennifer Nash, Amy Stage, Bryan Smith, Brad Smith, Jason Gilbert, Jeremy Gilbert and Justin Gilbert, 13 Great Grandchildren and one Great, Great Grandchild. Funeral service Friday, June 3rd, 2016-1:30 p.m.-First United Methodist Church in the McBirney Chapel.
