Ruth E. Mudge's Obituary
Ruth E. Mudge 1925-2014Ruth Mudge was born October 12, 1925 in Winston Salem North Carolina. She had two brothers and an older sister. After graduation, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts, to attend business school. She met the love of her life, Lieutenant Commander Richard Mudge, who was on leave in Boston from the Navy. After WWII ended, they continued their romance and became engaged. They married in Richard’s hometown of Kansas City, Missouri on February 11, 1949.They moved to Tulsa during the early 1950s and bought their first home on the GI bill. They had many friends and loved to play cards, bowl, and dance. They raised and showed Boston Terriers until their daughter Cindy was born in 1957. They both loved traveling and shared that with their daughter. They planned a road trip every year of their marriage to a different place in the United States. Ruth was a Brownie leader and a Girl Scout leader. Eventually, they bought a ranch in Broken Arrow, where they raised and showed Quarter Horses. Ruth taught riding lessons. They had many pets including cats, dogs, and peacocks. The ranch was a wonderful place to raise their daughter.Richard and Ruth were always involved in the community where they lived. She won many awards for her charity work. Ruth was a volunteer at St. John Hospital. After moving to Broken Arrow, she helped start the Auxiliary at Franklin Memorial Hospital and later St. Francis Broken Arrow. She logged thousands of hours working in the Emergency Room and Gift Shop. Richard and Ruth were involved in many organizations in Broken Arrow, including the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and the Chamber of Commerce. They passed their love of country and community on to their daughter and grandchildren. Richard and Ruth were married for 62 years. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Thomas Weaver; brother, Bill Weaver; half-sister, Betty Jean Murray; and her husband, Richard Mudge. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy German of Arizona; a brother, Tom Weaver of Georgia; half-sister, Cornelia Everett of Tennessee; her daughter, Cindy White; and two grandchildren, Jessica Hart (and her husband, Kevin Hart) and Jamie White, all of Broken Arrow. Ruth’s service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 12:30pm at the Floral Haven Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ruth’s name to: The Alzheimer’s Association or Wild Heart Ranch, Claremore, OK.
