Ruthie was my first cousin. My mom, Velda and her mom, Lela, we're sisters. They were very close. One time on Mom's birthday, Ruthie brought Aunt Lela to Arkansas for the party. She had made a birthday cake that barely fit in the trunk of the car. She was always very thoughtful of my mom and I appreciate that. When Ruth was in 11th grade, her dad bought her a Harley 125 motorcycle, to ride to school at La Sierra SDA school. It was about an hour ride each morning and afternoon. Her senior year, she attended San Pasqual boarding school, graduating in 1950.Once, she was having a disagreement with her youngest brother, Lloyd. He looked at her and called her "Bumble Nose." She never lived it down, she was always Bumble Nose to her siblings.During her marriage to Carlyle Lucas, she had 3 children. Her favorite weekend activity was going to Salton Sea to water ski. She mastered a single ski in record time. Then she went to the saucer and for some crazy reason, took a step stool onto the saucer, setting it up and climbing up the steps. That led to her finding a ladder that would fit on the saucer. She would set up the ladder and climb up the steps, all while maneuvering over the water.Rest in Peace
