Ruthel Crisp's Obituary
Ruthel (Farley) Crisp was born on March 3, 1937 in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, to Aldred Farley and Carrie M. Gresham. Ruthel was one of three children. Ruthel’s sister Wilda Lee Mitchell, whom she loved and cherished dearly, and her brother who passed this life as an infant, both preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents Aldred and Carrie, her daughter Linda, and grandson Travis. Ruthel attended school in Wichita, Kansas where she completed the 12th grade, and would go on to impact many lives.
Ruthel accepted Christ at an early age learning from her mother Carrie and grandmother Sarah Gresham. She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church where she served as an usher upon arriving to Tulsa, Oklahoma and then became a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Group. Ruthel lived with her aunt Elizabeth Chancey and family until she met and married Oscar Lee Crisp Sr. The two were married on February 4, 1956. From this union came seven children: Charlotte, Cynthia, Oscar Jr., Linda, Kathleen, Larry, and Carrie. Ruthel loved and cherished every moment with her children and gave them all tough love when needed.
Ruthel enjoyed being around her family and friends, laughing and learning to dance with her children and grandchildren, and just having a good time. Ruthel met no strangers; she was a friendly and caring person who was willing to help whether she was called upon or not. She was also a woman who spoke her mind.
Ruthel worked as a domestic worker and played a vital role in caring for others. Ruthel helped care for her mother Carrie, sister Wilda Lee, father-in-law Alonzo Rogers, daughter Linda, aunt Elizabeth, and her employer Linda Loughridge.
Ruthel worked for Dr. Billy P. and Linda Loughridge for 50 plus years and their three daughters Laurie, Lisa, and Amy. Ruthel and Linda became good friends, and she cared for her friend until God called her home on August 16, 2012. Ruthel then retired at the age of 80.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 68 years Oscar Sr., her seven children; Charlotte Farley, Cynthia Buckner (Gary), Oscar Jr. (Narcissie), Kathleen Fitch, Larry (Linda), and Carrie Willis (Johnny) all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 17 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.
