Aunt Lou was not only my spiritual mom, she was also a wonderful friend. We had such fun times together at Branson Prayer conferences. She loved to laugh and was always game to try new things. Fran loved to spend time with her as well.
One fun memory I have of her was on our 40th wedding anniversary. She wanted to take us out to dinner to celebrate. We decided on a little steak house that was suppose to have really good steaks. When we arrived, there was hardy anyone in the dining area. The hostess was dressed like a Daisy Mae with very skimpy clothes. Not what you would expect in a family restaurant. The waitress came out in a long flowing velvet gown with a tall dunce like hat. It kept getting weirder by the moment. Lou and Fran both ordered the buffet. There was no way I was going to eat buffet where other people weren't eating. I was sure they were going to get food poisoning. I may have ordered a small salad. I looked toward the kitchen and they had the split door with the bottom half closed and the top open. About four heads were stacked up peering out the door looking at us. We kept talking about how we felt like we were in the Twilight zone. We left and went to the meeting still talking about the weird experience we'd just had. About halfway through the meeting, it struck me that our anniversary is Halloween and so they were dressed for Halloween. The restaurant staff probably thought we were the weirdest people they had ever seen. We got to giggling about how the joke was on us. It was one of those times we couldn't stop laughing. People around just didn't understand. lol.
We also had so many laughs when Ruth Baker joined us the year after Wayne went to heaven. Fran said he had so much fun driving us all around just listening to all the laughter from us three ladies.
There is much I have learned from Lou. She leaves an amazing legacy. I often refer to her and things she taught me when I am teaching on the Word. My whole family's love of God is a testament to her many, many prayers. We will miss her here, but loads of people are rejoicing to have her home.
