Sharon (Sherri) Marie (Piper) Burkman, beloved prayer warrior,went home to Jesus at 12:45am on Sunday, August 11, 2019.Sharon (Sherri) Marie (Piper) Burkman was born June 3, 1940, inKansas City, KS, to Robert & Alberta Piper. The busy householdincluded one brother and three sisters: Robert, Martha Jean, Mona,& Sandra. Sherri graduated from Washington HS in Kansas City in1958, then attended Kansas City Junior College for two years.Sherri accepted Jesus as Savior and was water baptized at age As she grew in her walk with the Lord, she became a leader inher church and the church youth group. Since that time, she wasvery active in many facets of church-related activities, especially inwomen’s groups, intercessory prayer groups, and Bible studies.She worked as a substitute teacher with a local school system,taught preschoolers as part of a MDO program, and was a boardmember of Junior Chamber of Commerce.She served as President of United Methodist Women for 2 years,and later was involved with Aglow International for 14 years,including sitting on the executive board and serving as Presidentof the Houston chapter. She was co-chairman of a committee for2001 Global Celebration for Women, and Precinct Captain at alocal polling place in Tulsa, OK. Sherri and Bob were foundingmembers of the Seafarers Center ministry over 15 years doingseveral outings with the Seafarers every year.Church-related involvement was extensive. Sherri taught or actedas facilitator in Bible study groups over 25 years. She headed upprayer ministry for several years at Faithbridge, and faithfullyprayed with Faithbridge staff individually on Thursday morningsuntil early 2019.Sherri is survived by:Husband of 57 ½ years: Robert (Bob) BurkmanSon: Robert Burkman II (wife Lisa)Daughter: Dawn Patterson (husband Richard)Four Granddaughters: Alisha Burkman, Erika Burkman, KristinaPatterson, and Brooke PattersonBrother-In-Law: Don Burkman (wife Teri)Sister: Sandra Blumel (husband George)Nephews: Philip Blumel and Brian BlumelNieces: Mitzi Rezin, Jezan Bastian, Codi Schaben, Pamela Miranda,Misti Rayes, Amber Solland and Summer BurkmanSherri first noticed Bob Burkman inJunior College. After returning homefrom Kansas State University, Bobdated a few of Sherri’s friends. Onegirl lost interest, since Bob was alwayspaying attention to Sherri instead andsuggested they get together. Bob &Sherri were married in Kansas City,KS, on January 27, 1962. Sherri didnot learn to drive until after she wasmarried. Bob recalls that her dad would not let her drive after her older brother wrecked the new family car.
