Sharon G. Garvin's Obituary
Sharon Genelle Garvin, 77, passed away peacefully, Thursday, July 20, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. She was born February 26, 1940, in Alton, Illinois, to Burl and Opal Lugar. Three years later, her brother, Durand, joined the family. Her father, a teacher, started working for Phillips Petroleum as a draftsman during the summers and was offered a full-time position with the company, so the family soon relocated to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where her father built the family home on a ten-acre plot of land. After graduating from College High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Sharon studied at the Christian College University for Women in Missouri for two years before transferring and later graduating from Oklahoma State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Ever intent on continuous learning, Sharon would later return to OSU, to earn a Master’s Degree in Education, enabling her to offer the latest techniques her students. She married Albert R. Garvin, had two children, and settled in Tulsa for the remainder of her life. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa, was an avid reader, and lover of cats, occasionally bringing home a stray. After retirement, she went on to serve as a volunteer at Streetcats, an organization helping to find good homes for strays. She continued to serve until she was physically unable to do so. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Burl and Opal Lugar. She is survived by her brother, Durand Lugar of Tulsa; daughter, Kaara, her husband, Vernon Victory and their children, Brandon and Jordan, of Broken Arrow; son, Darren Garvin, his wife, Jill, and their children, Clancy and Elizabeth Garvin of Edmond. Graveside ceremony, Tuesday, July 25th, 2017-10:00 a.m.-Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
