Sharon "Kay" McConnell's Obituary
Sharon “Kay” McConnell was born on October 11, 1944 to Calvin Cornelius and Estral Mae Long in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Kay graduated from Webster High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma and worked at AT&T after her schooling. A couple years later, she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Leroy McConnell. Once Ken was drafted into the Army, they relocated to Fort Benning, Georgia, where their eldest son, Kenneth John McConnell, was born. Soon after Ken’s term was complete, Kay and Ken returned to Tulsa and had their youngest daughter, Susan Deann McConnell.
Kay was passionate about people and always had the most inclusive demeanor. She was gifted with true compassion and loved those around her dearly. Kay was an inspiration through her unwavering faith and loyal nature. She was always reaching out to others, encouraging them and sharing a good laugh with those around her. Kay enjoyed working in the yard, grilling burgers, watching her kids play sports, going to the movies, watching either old Western shows or Alfred Hitchcock movies, and was beyond passionate about her Gospel music!
Kay was preceded in death by her father, Calvin, her mother, Estral, her brother, Fred, and her husband, Kenneth. She is survived by her two children, Ken and Susan, her sisters, Deannie and Carol, and her granddaughter, Kristen.
People were constantly drawn to her loving spirit, even those who barely knew her. She rarely met a stranger, and on the off chance she did, they soon became close. Kay consistently set an outstanding example of how to treat others. She had the most positive outlook, never complained and was always there to lend a helping hand to those near and far. Kay always left those around her with a smile on their face and love in their heart.
