Shaylee Montoya Davenport's Obituary
Shaylee Montoya Davenport was born on June 18, 2021, and passed away on September 11, 2024, due to respiratory failure from clear cell sarcoma/metastatic melanoma, which had spread to her lungs, and checkpoint inhibitor-induced pneumonitis from treatment. Born in Oklahoma, Shaylee grew up in Haskell, Muskogee, and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was lovingly raised by her parents, Rachel, and Danzel as well as her family in Broken Arrow.
From the moment we laid eyes on Shaylee, we knew she was destined to be an amazing child. At 18 months, she was full of life and energy, often running around the family’s table and furniture, filling our home with laughter and excitement. Shaylee loved everyone she met, and everyone who met her loved her dearly. No matter what challenges she faced as a child, Shaylee approached every situation with love and gentleness.
She adored playing with her brother Ollie, along with her cousins, aunts, and uncles. Whether kicking or throwing a ball, she always seemed to hit her target, demonstrating her potential, intelligence, and athleticism. Shaylee had a kind and caring heart, always willing to share. When a nurse would take her to pick out a toy, Shaylee would always ask if she could choose one for her little brother Ollie as well. Even when Ollie would cry, upset that he didn’t have a toy, Shaylee would come out with something for him too. She always knew how to make things better.
Shaylee loved attending church, where she learned about God and played with friends. Shaylee lived strong. We are so proud of her. Despite everything, she continued to enjoy simple pleasures like playing "I’ve got your nose," riding her bike, listening to music, and spending time with animals, especially horses, cats, and dogs. We will never forget her beautiful curls and the joy she brought into our lives.
We are deeply grateful and honored to have experienced Shaylee's life. Shaylee would want us to love one another, as she demonstrated so clearly in her own life. Shaylee lived proud of each and every one of us for being part of her journey, and we know she would not want us to live in pain or hurt because of her passing. Shaylee is now healed and in the hands of her Almighty God, where her soul will rest in Christ for all eternity.
Let us no longer grieve, but instead rejoice and cherish all the wonderful memories we shared with her. Shaylee touched the lives of many with her incredible spirit. She will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
