Shirley Campbell's Obituary
Shirley Ann Campbell, 71, of Coweta, OK passed away November 12, 2024. She was born on February 8, 1953 in Tahlequah,OK to Frank and Margaret Haworth. She married the love of her life, Michael Campbell on January 31st, 1981 in Broken Arrow, OK. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and Ya Ya.
Shirley attended schools in Wagoner, Tahlequah, and graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1971. She attended Northeastern State University and graduated in 1975
with a BS in Business Education with a minor in Journalism. In Jr. High School, Shirley was active in band, playing the clarinet and as a Majorette as well as Drum Major. In High School she was active in DECA, FHA and Band, also performing as a Majorette.
In college, Shirley continued with the band and was again selected as a Majorette all four years. She was a finalist in the 1973 Miss Northeastern Pageant and her picture was selected to represent September in the annual 1975 Northeastern Calendar. Shirley was an active devoted member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and served in many capacities. Her favorite role was as Vice President which allowed her to guide and train new members. Shirley's effervescent and mischievous giggles along with her talent for storytelling always kept everyone entertained.
After graduating, Shirley's first job was in Tulsa at Oliveti followed by a 15 year career at GTE where she traveled as a Security Investigator in the Fraud Department. She also was a Phone Mart Manager and Financial Analyst until her retirement. Becoming restless, Shirley began another illustrious career with Citgo Petroleum in their marketing department and closed out another retirement as a Financial Analyst in the Budget Department in Houston, TX. After two retirements...she wasn't finished! She continued on commuting to Bartlesville to work for Conoco Phillips as an accountant and closed out her working days at Progressive Machine Tools in Tulsa. She was a hard worker and a valued employee who added humor and spice to the workplace.
Shirley was an artist, painting many pictures, as well as a creative crafter and collector of all things. Her prized collection was numerous "Campbell" Soup collectibles. Her family has fond memories of her as the "creative director" of her son and niece's many school and Halloween costumes. There wasn't a junk yard on the side of the road where she couldn't find treasure. She was a tried and true friend to many and will be missed by all.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank 'Tom' and Margaret Haworth, and her beloved son, Brett Michael Campbell.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Michael Campbell of Coweta, her sister Sharon Miller and husband Tom of Broken Arrow, her brother Ed Haworth and wife DeShonne of Tahlequah, Nieces Tosha Lundy and husband David of Broken Arrow, Bracie Been and husband Joseph of Overland Park, Hannah Breshears and husband Will of Stillwater, and great nephews, Owen Michael Lundy and Frank Lundy. Along with several cousins, friends, and other relatives.
There will be a visitation Thursday, November 14th from 4pm to 7pm at Floral Haven Funeral Home with services officiated by Ed Haworth on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 3pm. Reception to follow in the Family Center.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to be made in Shirley’s honor to either The Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnels to Towers.
