Shirley Ray Lacy's Obituary
Shirley Rae Lacy passed away in Broken Arrow, OK, October 22, 2017, at the age of 82. She left this world surrounded by her loving family.Shirley was born September 25, 1935, in Seattle, WA, to the late James and Mary Chenoweth. She attended Ballard High School where she was a song leader and an editor to the school newspaper.She met and married Melvyn L. Lacy in Seattle while he was stationed there in the US Navy on May 1, 1954. They had two sons, Matthew James in 1957 and Miles Ward in 1960 in Laramie, WY. They lived in Michigan for 33 years while Melvyn was a professor at Michigan State University. After his retirement they relocated to Broken Arrow in 1998 to be near their two grandchildren and son, Miles.She was an avid tennis player and a member of Indian Springs Country Club and a very active member at the First United Methodist Church of BA. She was a choir member and volunteered in several areas of the church. Shirley loved shopping and spending time spoiling her family. She valued community service and gave back to the communities she lived in many ways. She was a 24 year breast cancer survivor and suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for the last several years of her life.She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Melvyn Lacy; her two sons, Matthew Lacy of Parker, CO, and Miles Lacy of Broken Arrow, OK; and her two grandchildren, Kristle Ann Lacy and Miles Lacy Jr. of Broken Arrow, OK.Her memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow, Monday, November 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or The Alzheimer’s Association.
