Shirley Louise Meyer's Obituary
Shirley Louise Meyer, formerly of Miami, Oklahoma, passed from this life and entered Heaven on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the age of 83 years. Shirley was born July 2, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri to her parents, Charles and Sybil Gippner. She married Arthur “Art” Neil Meyer on October 17, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri. They were happily married for 61 years, until Art passed away in 2007. Shirley was a secretary for many years at First Baptist Church in Miami, Oklahoma. She loved music and was active in the church choir and the hand bells program. She was also active in the Sweet Adeline organization for several years. Art and Shirley served over 20 years in Gideons International and the Gideons Auxiliary. In addition they volunteered many hours to the Hearts and Hammers program of Miami, Oklahoma. Shirley found great joy in helping others, such as volunteering at the Tulsa Garden Center and knitting caps for a community project in Mexico. Her hobbies included needlework, reading, and travel. Her greatest joy was her faith, family, and friends, both in Miami and Town Village, Tulsa. She is survived by her son, Bob Meyer, and his wife, Linda, of Broken Arrow; her daughter, Patty Chandler, and her husband, Jay, of Tulsa, OK; her brother, Keith Gippner of Raytown, Missouri; her sister, Barbara Bradford of Phelan, California; and her sister-in-law, Mayme Totta of Carlsbad, California. Her grandchildren are Craig Meyer and his wife, Blair, of San Antonio, Texas; Mary Chandler of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Cara Meyer and her fiance, Cole MacDonald, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Shirley was much loved by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration of her life will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010 at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma with Dr. Ted Kersh officiating. Interment will be in the family’s private burial estate at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the music program of South Tulsa Baptist Church or The Gideons International.
