"Smitty" Eldred Edward Smith's Obituary
Eldred E. “Smitty” Smith died peacefully on May 24, 2016 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 86.Smitty was born on March 17, 1930 in Emporia, KS. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Navy. He later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. Smitty married Betty Washburn on August 16, 1953. After marriage, Smitty was transferred from Shawnee, OK to Tulsa, OK with the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company “ONG.” He retired from ONG and worked as a contract Right of Way Man and then finally stopped working at the age of 80.He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and the world’s best Papa.Smitty is survived by his wife, Betty, daughters, Diana Smith and Sandra Staves, grandchildren, James Staves, Cassie Staves, and Samantha Mangrum and her husband Nate, great grandchildren, Ivy Kate Staves and Jordyn Harris, and brother, Howard Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard F. and Cornelia Smith, sister, Ruth McGee, and brother, David Smith.A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 12:30 pm at the Floral Haven Funeral Home in Broken Arrow, OK. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Smitty’s life.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Smitty’s honor and name to the Disabled Veterans or to The Salvation Army.
