Steven Ray's Obituary
Steven Ray, passed away at the age of 77. Born on May 18, 1948, in Joplin, Missouri, to Darrell and Mary Ray.
Steven married the love of his life, Judy Ray, on August 14, 1971, in Fort Scott, Kansas. Together they built a life grounded in love, laughter, and devotion to family and community. A proud graduate of Pittsburg State University, Steven carried his Gorilla pride wherever he went.
A lifelong enthusiast of ham radio, Steven found joy and purpose behind the mic. His call sign, simply known as “N5FEM,” was a familiar and steady voice in the airwaves. He was a proud and active member of the Broken Arrow Emergency Response Team, always ready to lend a hand and a signal during times of need. Known for his dry wit and quick one-liners, Steven was a true jokester who could make anyone crack a smile. He had a deep love for sweets and a knack for cooking, especially when using his beloved dutch oven. Many memories were made under the stars, as Steven cherished camping trips with his kids and quiet days spent fishing.
An Eagle Scout and later a devoted scoutmaster, Steven believed deeply in the values of leadership and mentorship. He gave countless hours to shaping young lives, both through scouting and on the sidelines as a Little League and soccer coach.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Judy, son Scott Ray, son Todd Ray, brother David Ray, sister Judi Ray, grandchildren Carter Ray, Kaden Ray, Ashlyn Ray, Cash Ray, great-grandchild Everlee Ray, sister in law Debbie Garrett and husband Jack, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and loved ones.
