Susan "Susy" Crowell's Obituary
Susan Elizabeth Crowell, affectionately known as Susy, was a devoted wife, mother,
daughter, sister, sister-in-law, niece, aunt, cousin, and friend. Born in April 1962 in Enid,
Oklahoma, she was a cherished daughter of David and Virginia Lucas of Lawton, OK.
Susy's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, giving and dedication. She is survived
by her husband, Dave; her sons, Chad, his wife Taylor Crowell of Pinehurst, TX; Lucas of
Tulsa; and her adored grandsons, Cooper and Baker. Her family also includes her sister,
Kim and her sister’s husband Mike Barnthouse of Enid; sisters-in-law DeAnne Stolarik of
Zion, IL, and Vickie Crowell of Sarasota, FL; Uncle Frank and Aunt Carol Lucas of Little Elm,
TX; Aunt Jeaniece Winrich of Edmond, OK and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Susy was predeceased by her father David Lucas, her brothers-in-law, Dwayne Crowell,
John Stolarik, her Lucas and Stanley grandparents and her Crowell parents-in-law.
Susy’s journey took her through Cameron University to Oklahoma State University on
scholarship, where she discovered her passion for business and earned an accounting
degree in 1984. She started her career with the CPA firm Aurther Andersen & Co and
became a CPA in 1988. It was at Arthur Andersen in 1984 that she met the love of her life,
Dave, and they married in August 1986. Her career led her to The Williams Companies in
1988, where she worked until 1995 before leaving the workforce to dedicate her time to
raising her children.
Susy's passions were many and varied. She was an outstanding musician, being an allstate flute and piccolo player, playing both in the Lawton Philharmonic. She loved reading,
gardening, cooking, and attending Broadway plays in New York and Tulsa. In her younger
years, she delighted in snow and water skiing and camping (in a motor home) in the
mountains, where she would cook freshly caught trout. Her love of cooking was a legacy
she passed down to her sons.
Her heart was as generous as it was loving. Susy supported numerous local charities,
including Habitat for Humanity, Tulsa Food Bank, John 3:16, and the Oklahoma Arts
Institute. She was also a dedicated volunteer at Jenks public schools, organizing and
running various events for many years. For the first 20 years of the Crusader Scholarship
Fund’s existence, she performed most of the fund’s administrative work. She and Dave
were members of the First United Methodist Church in Tulsa.
Susy's greatest joy was her family. She faithfully supported her sons in all their endeavors,
whether they were playing soccer, golf, music, or showcasing their art. She loved visiting
her grandsons and cherished every moment spent with them. She was a Sunday School
teacher when her children were young, nurturing their faith and curiosity.
On June 4, 2024, surrounded by family and with Dave holding her hands, Susy peacefully
took her last breath. She has gone to be with the Lord, a place that outshines any earthly
existence. We are not surprised Susy was ready to go home, nor surprised the Lord wanted
her in His embrace.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you in Susy’s memory, to support Tulsa’s Habitat for
Humanity, the Tulsa Food Bank, or the Agape Ministry at First Christian Church in Lawton,
OK. Her spirit of giving continues through these acts of kindness.
The service will be 12:30 June 18, at Floral Haven Funeral Home, 6500 South 129th East Ave.
Broken Arrow, OK 74012. There will be a reception following for family and close friends.
