Susan C. Prewitt's Obituary
Susan Carol Smith Prewitt Born Sept. 6, 1954 (Labor Day), Durant OK- Passed away June 2, 2013, Tulsa OK Susie is survived her by husband David Prewitt of the home. Daughter of Cecil B. and Veda Mae Smith. At age 12 Susie gave her life to Jesus, had a strong commitment and never wavered or looked back. Susie was a serious student of the Bible and grew into a dedicated Christian and was known by many as a prayer warrior. When Susie offered to pray for you, she wasn't saying that to just be friendly or social. Susie made many friends in the Christian music academy realm. Susie had a rare gift for music. Academically competitive from 7th grade through undergrad at TU. During her middle school years, she was a cheerleader and made All State Piano in High School. She made a total of 2 B's, this being her freshman year at TU, everything else was A's. Her GPA was 3.95. Her degree was with honors at TU. Her Major was in Music with a Piano Performance Degree and Minor in Voice. She was the accompanist for all the choirs, both piano and organ for TU. She was also handpicked for a very elite group called Modern Choral that traveled to many venues including Carnegie Hall. She also played in two different piano concerts at Carnegie Hall. Susie had many awards, some were Honor Societies, Who's Who, President of the Mortar Board. She was a Phi Beta Capa and while doing all of that she was playing Wednesdays and Sundays at Nogales Baptist Church in Tulsa. This is where David and Susie actually met. She graduated from TU in 1976 and married David William Prewitt June 12, 1976. Susie was a strong committed Christian lady and witnessed to many people. She got her Master's Degree in Music Education with emphasis on Piano and voice secondary from the University of Oklahoma. Susie was an excellent Teacher, both in public schools and college. She taught public schools for 3 years in Broken Arrow and Sperry. She was assistant professor for one year at OU's Music Department and taught piano lab at Tulsa Junior College for 12 years. People will remember Susie by her strong faith through her illness with Lupus and Arthritis. She was always positive through it all and knew this was God's plan for her life.
