Sylvia Ford Johnson's Obituary
Sylvia Ford Johnson, age 60, passed away Thursday, May 1st in St. John Hospital after a period of illness. Sylvia was born to Huey and Mildred Ford on June 15th, 1953, in the town of Thomasville, Alabama. After graduating from Uniontown High School, she attended Troy State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in education. Sylvia eventually moved to Dothan, Alabama and started her career teaching in rural Georgia. In 1984, Sylvia married Dale Johnson in Dothan. In 1985, they moved to Oklahoma and made their home in the city of Broken Arrow. Sylvia worked in the Union School district and actively supported Peter’s Elementary. She did a great deal of volunteer work for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and various other organizations. Sylvia enjoyed traveling with her family. She was able to visit much of the United States as well as England and Germany. Yet, no matter how far she traveled she was always happy to return to her home in Broken Arrow. Following her retirement, Sylvia enjoyed tending to her garden and watching the birds that would visit the bird feeder in her yard. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Dale Johnson; two sons, Lee Baxley and Matthew Johnson; two brothers, Huey Ford and Freddie Ford; two sisters, Margaret Ann Gillespie and Mary Ellen Agee; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Huey and Mildred Ford.
