Teddy "Ted" Lee Mears' Obituary
Teddy “Ted” Lee Mears, 68, passed from this life on July 15, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ted was born on July 17, 1945 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Albert Benton and Leota June (Lackey) Mears. He was the oldest of three children. Ted left high school to join the army and served combat tours in Korea, Congo, and Vietnam. He served his country from 1963 to 1972 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ted received the good conduct medal, Vietnam service medal and the Purple Heart but was discharged after nine years as a disabled veteran. He met and married Kathryn Burklund on March 24, 1974 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and they shared 40 memorable years together. He was most proud of the births of his first grandson and first great grandson. His hobbies were military history, Chevys and show cars, and collecting armour and weaponry. Ted is survived by his spouse Kathy Mears; daughter Jennifer Mears; son Rodney Mears; grandchildren Aaron, Angela, Jessica, Gary, Jerry, Chyna and Ariaunna; great-grandchildren Reese, Elizabeth, Jordan, Savannah, Jeremiah and Jolee; mother Leota Mears and brothers Allen and Dennis. Ted is preceded in passing by his father Albert Benton Mears and grandsons Jacob Mears and Sebastian Deschamps. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Floral Haven Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, July 18, 2014 at Tulsa Wesleyan Church with Interment in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery.
