Thelma Ethel Moon's Obituary
Thelma Ethel (Roberts) Moon passed from this earth on January 7, 2023, at the age of 94. She was a resident of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Thelma was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on August 28, 1928, to Joseph Frank Roberts and Gladys (Wisdom) Roberts. Thelma was beautiful, intelligent, and very capable and graduated from high school at sixteen. She went on to attend Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska where she met her future husband, Edward Lloyd Moon. They married on December 25, 1947.
Thelma and Lloyd had four children and moved a number of times over the years in support of Lloyd’s job with CITGO. They lived in Denver, CO, Odessa, TX, Ardmore, OK, several suburbs of Chicago, IL, Verdigris, OK, Lake Charles, LA and retired to Broken Arrow, OK. Thelma held a number of jobs over the years but her favorite would be the years she spent working for both the University of Chicago at Champagne Urbana Extension Service and subsequently the Oklahoma State University Extension Service as a Health and Nutrition Aide working with at-risk populations and teaching them about nutrition.
Thelma’s Christian faith was paramount in her life and the Seventh Day Adventist churches in the various towns where they lived played a significant role in the lives of Thelma and her family. Thelma had a beautiful singing voice and could play the piano by ear – she sang many times in church. She and her husband Lloyd were also actively involved in teaching and leading youth groups. She was a current member of the Seventh Day Adventist church of Broken Arrow, OK.
Thelma is survived by her four children and their families: Carol Moon, Edward Lloyd Moon Jr. and his wife Debby, Joye Honeycutt and husband Jim, Mike Moon and wife Angela. Thelma’s passion in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved driving and traveling. She drove until she was around 88 and traveled all over the United States with her family. Her precious vibrant spirit, sparkling blue eyes, and enthusiasm for life will be sorely missed, and her family looks forward to the day they will be reunited with Thelma in Heaven.
Graveside service will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Garden of St. Paul.
