Thermon A. Hollis' Obituary
Thermon Albert Hollis Sr., son of Reuben Abner and Bessie (Wofford) Hollis was born July 30, 1920 in Vernon, Lamar County, Alabama. He attended grade school at Academy Elementary and Bedford Academy High School. After graduation he attended welding school at Gadsden, Alabama and obtained his first job in the shipyards at Mobile, Alabama. He served during WWII joining the United States Navy March 3, 1943 at Birmingham, Alabama and received an honorable discharge May 3, 1946 at Grand Prairie, Texas obtaining the rank Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class. He was manager at Remington Rand in Texas for many years. After moving to Tulsa he worked and retired from Allee Office Equipment and the City of Tulsa. He married Wanda Louise Mayes September 12, 1975. They lived in Tulsa and Sand Springs until his death October 28, 2012. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church at Sand Springs. His favorite hobbies were fishing, photography and spending time with his loved ones. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Louise, of the home. Brother Lecial and wife Sylvia Hollis and sisters Dortha and husband James Turner and sister Jewel Stark; one son, T.A. Hollis Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Tulsa; two daughters Cynthia Parrett of Dayton, Texas and Teresa Reynolds and husband LeRoy of Catoosa, Ok. Two grandson, Tony and Eric Smith. Six step-children, Carolyn Williams, Robert and Sue Field, David and Debbie Field, Eva and Benny Isam, Kathleen Gonzales and Sherry and Lloyd Hemphill and many step grandchildren, cousins and other relatives. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Virginia Coley, his brother-in-law Thomas Lee Mayes Jr. and two step-sons, Paul and Roy Field. Serving as pallbearers are his brother-in-laws, George Miller, Lester Ray, A.J., Mack and Dan Mayes and good friend Jim Shouse. Honorary pallbearers are special friends Ken Boswell, David West, Joel Jones, A.B. Callahan, Bill Horton and his brother Lecial Hollis. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2012 in Floral Haven Chapel with Chaplain Harry Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Prayer at Floral Haven. The family wishes to thank the members of Freedom Hospice for their care and support and the Calvary Baptist Church family for their loved, prayers and support during his illness.
