Thomas Myers' Obituary
Thomas Joseph Myers was born April 6, 1937 in Hiteman, Iowa to Lester and May (Hull) Myers. He passed away December 18, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Tom graduated from Pleasantville (Iowa) High School in 1955 and went to work for a short time at Pittsburg Steel in Des Moines Iowa before joining the Navy in January 1956. He had a choice of Grand Rapids or San Diego for boot camp since he was not a fan of winter he chose San Diego. He got into ET-A school at Treasure Island and his first duty station was the Philippine Islands. On leave in November 1958, on his way to his next duty station, Bremerhaven, Germany, his sister introduced him to his future wife, Barbara Maxwell. While in Germany he proposed to her and she accepted—by mail. They got married June 5, 1961. He spent a short time working for his father-in-law selling Farm Bureau Insurance, before re-upping in the Navy. He was assigned to Virginia and sent to a school in Pensacola Florida. While there his daughter, Marcella, was born. For the next 18 years Tom and his family travelled the world. He retired for the Navy in September 1979 and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. His first job in Tulsa was at Tulsa Paper. He then got a job at Mosler as an alarm technician and retired from them in approximately 2003.Even though there was distance from his family in Iowa he made it a point to get up there at least once a year. He last made the trip this past summer and had a great time seeing family. He was an avid fisherman and reader. The past several years he enjoyed keeping up with the family exploits on Facebook.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ted Myers. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Myers of Broken Arrow, OK; Marcella Brannon, of Tulsa, OK; his sister, Joan Parker of Carlisle, Iowa; his sister-in-laws Bonnie Shupe of Ankeny, Iowa and Brenda (Larry) Koger of Malvern, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
