Tom was an amazing man, a dear friend and partner. I was honored to be called his “other pastor”. He was solidly Methodist, but did call himself a “quasi Baptist”.
What an impact he had. Thousands of children in South and Central America received Samaritan’s Purse Christmas gifts through his efforts. He helped my churches go to three schools, gifting over 200 teachers and employees with bags containing a couple a hundred dollars in gift cards, including Goldie Restaurant cards with a photo of his dog Goldie. He went with us each time to meet and Share Christ’s love. A Christian Camp was able to build a new chapel with his help. So many were touched by his generosity.
We prayed together, the last time just days before his passing. We discussed the Scriptures, the 2nd Coming, his family, his pride in his kids.
He once called me and my wife aside after a service. He said, “I want you to know I love you two. I will always be there for you and have your back.” He was true to his word.
What a legacy! His desire was to atone for what he called his wasted years, the years before Christ ruled his life. He did, above and beyond. Kind, wise, sincere, humble, he was all in for his Saviour.
God bless you brother! We love you. We already miss you so much. I listened to my phone messages and there you were. So considerate in your messages, even as the horrid disease robbed you of your vitality. I cried. Thank you for everything. Thank you for being my “partner”, as you liked to say.
And May God richly bless you, his family. I pray His comfort and presence will be with you more than ever at this time. The parting is painful but not forever. You will see him again in glory
In His Love,
Pastor Billy and Sharon Hatfield
