Thomas Eugene Wegley's Obituary
Tom (Thomas) Wegley was born in Okmulgee, OK on June 13, 1949.
Like most boys, he gave his parents grey hair and a few frights. He also brought a lot of joy to their lives! Thom held several positions from entry level to management before he took a well-deserved retirement. He always gave his all whether it was at work or at play. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed being a spectator or competing. He played various sports in school and into his 50’s. Once, while trying to field a flyball on a wet field, he slid under the outfield fence. He made the play, but they had to stop the game to get him loose from the fence. He never quit trying!
Tom loved working and playing with his family! His sons (Tommy and James) had their first jobs under him when he was the assistant manager at Rex’s. They performed the same jobs as every other employee, including shoveling snow! He also took them to the park and had homerun contests and basketball games. Later, they enjoyed being on the golf course with him. He coached his son’s teams as well, when they were in baseball and football. Tom was asked to umpire one of James’ little league games. James thought he would get a free ride but Tom called him out on strikes. He was a fair man at work and at play,
Tom also coached his daughter’s (Jamie) basketball team in elementary. They would shoot baskets together at home. Tom helped Jamie raise a horse and he would let her help catch the rat snakes when the got into the pigeons. He once found a rat snake and Jamie asked to help. She pulled the tail while he grabbed the head. This ended with Tom getting bit and slinging the snake around toward Jamie. While she that she had been bit, he was pulling teeth out of his thumb! She still catches snakes to this day! Thanks Tom!
He was an avid cowboy fan. It was such fun during football season with him rooting for Dallas, Tommy pulling for the 49ers, and James wanting NY Giants to win! He enjoyed going to watch the Tulsa Drillers and watching OKC Thunder every chance he got. Tom lived in Seattle for a while and still liked to watch the Seattle Mariners. He loved golf, bingo (even when Jamie won more than he did), poker(his nickname was All In), camping (even when Tom and Tommy forgot to seal the seams and it rained in the tent), fishing (while James pulled Tom’s pole out of the water), and an occasional casino night. Although he did win occasionally, he never won a jackpot. But he did win $500 with a pull tab. He enjoyed a good horse race as well, especially when a gray horse was running. Tom also enjoyed playing darts and golfing with his brother Bobby.
The last ten years took a toll on Tom. He battled multiple health issues and had several hard times. Tom also had more good times than bad during the first eight years. He still helped with the house and yard. He stil played and went to see the Drillers. He helped with finances by doing events involving petting zoos and pony rides. He later became dependent on a walker to get around. He would sweep and do what he could. He would make dinner at night and help in the kitchen.
The last two years took his ability to do much away. He lost the left leg below the knee and had to work hard to get back on his feet. He hated not being able to help with the house and yard! Or being able to do what he wanted to do. Tom received his prosthetic leg and after five months of physical therapy he was on his way back. He go dentures so he could eat corn on the cob (which he did get to eat), he got hearing aids and was waiting to get them programed, and had an eye appointment to get glasses. He was walking better each day! He kept trying to improve every day.
But God brought Tom home on May 1, 2026 at 10:15 am. He went to be his best self again , with God. Tom will be missed but he will always be a part of each and every one of us! He will be in our hearts and thoughts always.

A Celebration Of Life Service for Tom will be held at Pickett Prairie Baptist Church on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 11:00 AM
