Timothy Lynn Steen's Obituary
On the morning of June 24, 2014, Tim passed away at CTCA in Tulsa, OK after a valiant fight with lung cancer. He was comforted by his wife at the time of his passing. Tim was 59 years old. Tim was born in Fargo, ND on September 2, 1954. He was the second child and only son of Ruth and Lynn Steen of Halstad, MN. Tim was raised on the family farm outside of Halstad with his two sisters. Tim attended school in Halstad and graduated from Halstad High School in 1972. He went on to receive his associate degree in Agronomy from Crookston College (MN) in 1974 and a BS in Agronomy from NDSU in 1976. He returned to NDSU in 1982 to add a degree in Ag-Education in 1983. Tim met Marianne Lee (Berg) Steen in January of 1980 in Fargo, ND and they were married on November 1, 1981 in Crosby, TX. Together they raised their four children and remodeled homes in ND, MN, NE and KS. Tim was extremely proud of all of them. Mostly his children, but yes, the homes too. Tim and Marianne were lovingly married for almost 33 years. Before receiving his Ag-Education degree from NDSU, Tim worked many farm related jobs for his family and neighbors around Halstad. He also worked as a substitute teacher, in bulkhead construction and as a cable installer in Crosby, TX. In the summer of 1983, Tim began his professional career as a high school agriculture teacher and FFA advisor. He taught in ND, MN and NE until 1994. He loved working with the students and their families and continued to be a gifted teacher and mentor throughout his life. Pursuing his remodeling interest, he then chose to work in the construction field, specializing in electrical work. He was an active member of IBEW Local 226 of Topeka, KS for the past eight years. Tim enjoyed time with his family, shooting sports, hunting with his dog Bear, woodworking and remodeling homes, but his greatest passion was golf. He spent a great deal of his free time in the backyard with a wedge, his dog, and a ball shagger. His love of the game truly kept him going during his fight with cancer. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Joseph Steen in 1984 and his father-in-law, Barry Edward Berg in 2003. Tim is survived by his wife, Marianne in Wamego, KS; his son Joseph and wife Brooke (McCoy) Steen of Alpharetta GA; son Ryan Steen and daughter Melissa Steen of Wamego; KS; son Adam Steen of Manhattan, KS; mother Ruth Langemo Steen of Halstad, MN; sisters Linda and husband Robert Engelstad of Gatzke, MN and Ann and husband Brad Williams of Fargo, ND as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; all loved and remembered.
