Troy L. Morehouse's Obituary
A celebration of the life of Troy Lee Morehouse will be held at Floral Haven Funeral Home, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. Troy passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. Visitation will be on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.Troy was born March 20, 1938 in Lyons, Kansas, during a snow storm, to Troy Loys and Laura Ellen Morehouse. He was the eldest of three siblings who lost their father at Iwo Jima on February 17, 1945 at the ages of 6, 4, and 2 years old. He was raised by his mother, grandmother, aunts and uncle and was always very appreciative of that upbringing. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1956 and attended Oklahoma State University for 2 years and various trade schools. He never turned down a chance to continue his education. He served 2 years in the National Guards. After college he worked in the oil fields as a roughneck, worked pipeline construction, and oil refinery operations. His last positions were in maintenance and preventative maintenance supervision with Gardner-Denver, J. I. Case Company and Grede Foundries in Pryor, Oklahoma and retired in 1999 after 26 years of service.Troy married Jawanda Begley-Marrs in 1964 adding two step-daughters, Myrl Ann and Jana Marrs and made their home in Drumright, Oklahoma. To this marriage a son, Troy Joe (T.J.), was born in 1966. The family relocated to Pryor, Oklahoma in 1973 and there he began his career with Gardner-Denver foundry. That marriage ended in 1976.Troy met the love of his life, Eunice Willhite Grubbs, and they were married in September 2, 1978 adding two step-sons, Brad and Mark Grubbs to the family and made their home in Claremore, Oklahoma.He served ten years on the Rogers County Rural Water District 9 Water Board working on several projects to improve the water district for the future. He also managed the Sooner Gun Club shooting program located at the RSU Campus, Claremore, for ten years giving junior shooters expert training including advancement to the Colorado Springs Junior Olympic training center. He loved working with young shooters, especially teaching them gun safety.Troy enjoyed drag racing, hunting, fishing, and precision shooting. After college, with his love of drag racing, he was instrumental in starting drag racing at the Cushing Airport which brought championship drag racing to Cushing, Oklahoma. This brought more than 3,000 people into the city during the weekends and also opened the door for future racing activities in Cushing. His dream was to be a great drag car racer but eventually traded that dream to raise his families.Troy loved fishing and once said he “didn’t want to be remembered for how well he kept his grass mowed but for what a great fisherman he was”. He may not have achieved that title but enjoyed trying to obtain it.After Troy’s retirement he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, fighting a lengthy 19 year battle along with many other complicated health issues. During this time he always kept a good sense of humor, always making people around him laugh. He was a wonderful son, brother, father, Grandpa and everyone’s “Papa Troy”. He loved his family and was happiest when they gathered for family dinners, attended the grandchildren’s activities and took trips together.He was loved and respected so much and will be missed forever by his family and friends.Troy is preceded in death by his parents, Troy Loys and Laura Morehouse-Garrett; step-father, Ralph Garrett; step-son, Mark Grubbs; step-great-grandson, Levi Grubbs; brother Gerald and sister-in-law Carolyn Morehouse.He is survived by his wife, Eunice, of the home; son Troy Joe and wife Gena Morehouse of Topanga, California; step-son, Brad and wife Raenita Grubbs of Claremore; step-daughter-in-law, Shelly (Grubbs) Mills and husband Tim, of Pryor; brother, Ronald Morehouse and wife, Yvonne, of Edmond; grandchildren Rachel and Elijah Morehouse, of New York City; step-grandsons, Flint and wife, Breanna Grubbs, of Adair; and Hawken and wife Rachael Grubbs, of Yuma, Arizona; step-granddaughters, Amanda Grubbs of Pryor; and Madison Grubbs, of Norman; step-daughters, Myrl Hallman of Olive, Oklahoma, her sons Corey of San Francisco, California and Kerry from Owasso, Oklahoma and their families; step-daughter, Jana Warren of Broken Arrow, her daughter Mandy of Broken Arrow and son Jake of Pryor and their families; step-great-grandchildren: Colt, Chloe, Cheyenne, and Conner Grubbs of Yuma, Arizona; Rhys, Finley, Bentley, and Londyn Grubbs of Adair; and Payton and Sadie Burnett of Pryor, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
