Twila Hunter Obituary Twila Larene Hunter went to be with the Lord on October 15 in Southern California where she had lived for the last ten years. She was born in Waurika, Oklahoma on March 13, 1922. Her parents were Charles and Bessie Dykes. Twila married Wayne Hunter on December 2, 1945. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995 in Tulsa where they owned a home. In the 1950’s Twila and Wayne owned two dry cleaning businesses in downtown Tulsa and in Sand Springs. In 1952 they were two of twelve original founding members of Sheridan Christian Center. In 1960 they moved with their girls to Juneau, Alaska to become missionaries to neglected children under the Assemblies of God. For five years they enjoyed ministry there, moving back to Tulsa in 1965 to work on staff of their loved church, Sheridan Christian Center. In 1972 they moved to Bellflower, California to work in a large church there doing children’s and visitation ministries. Later they moved to San Jose, California to do the same in a church there. In 1990 they moved back to their beloved Tulsa where they lived their retirement years together enjoying family and friends. After Wayne passed in 2001, Twila moved to southern California to be closer to her daughters. Twila always enjoyed entertaining, crafting, and helping others. She is survived by two daughters, Janet Sumpter of Artesia, CA and Joyce Bonney of Edmonds, WA., two sons-in-law, both named Doug, three grandchildren Leisha, Robyn, and Brad, 1 great grandson, Taylor and 1 great granddaughter, Sienna. Twila touched many lives with her Christian love, hospitality, and many kindnesses.
