V. George Dorsch's Obituary
V. George Dorsch was born on March 9, 1924 in Coffeyville, Kansas and died of natural causes on January 13, 2011 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents: George F. Dorsch and Cathrina Dorsch, proud German immigrants from Schwab, Russia; his brother: Eugene Dorsch; sister: Dolly Whisenhunt; and son: Randy Dorsch. He graduated from Webster High School and Oklahoma A&M with honors and his Master’s degree from Tulsa University. In 1942 – 1945 he was in World War II serving in the 244th Army Air Force in Italy. He returned to duty as a 1st Lt. in the Army from 1951 and inactive from 1952 to 1955. In the 1946 – 1947 Wrestling NCAA Championship representing Oklahoma A&M, he was awarded the 175lb NCAA Championship. He began his wrestling coaching and teaching career at Stillwater High School and entered the Tulsa Public School System in 1949 as wrestling coach, science teacher, and counselor at Central High School until he became Assistant Principal at East Central High School before retiring in 1987. He ran the Night School Operation and GED testing at East Central until 1993. He loved being a teacher and all the boys he coached through the years. His love of gardening, flowers and birds was evidenced by his yard. His joy in catching fish and being out on the lake was something to behold. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years: Joan; 4 children: Cheryl Dorsch Mattern, Leslie, Pamela and Scott Pickell; grandchildren: Bill Mattern, Ryan, Tyler, Kyle, and Kelsy Pickell; numerous and well loved nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011, 10:00 AM in the Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
