Velma Lee Hagood's Obituary
Velma Lee Wescott Hagood Born February 9, 1929 in Bristow, Oklahoma. Went to be with the Lord and her sweetheart, Carson on August 14th, 2012. She was a talented woman who decorated windows in the drugstore for her first job, went on to work for the telephone company, then secretary for Lindberg Elementary and Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After Retirement, she and Carson owned the Park Hills Motel in Vinita, Oklahoma. She was a wonderful homemaker who always loved guests at her home and there was always a goodie for them. She could cook anything and especially fresh fish and game. She was known for her fish frys and hushpuppies. Velma had such a crafty side to her with wonderful sewing skills and decorating things. She always worked and still had time to cook, clean, run the children to activities, and even polish the boy’s shoes. She would make a new floral arrangement or create some new curtains. She was a hunter and went on many a hunt with her husband. They loved their motor home and traveled many places meeting new friends along the way. Velma was a Godly woman who had great faith. Church was always a priority in the family and she passed on the Word of God to her children. She was married for almost 60 years to the love of her life. They shared many adventures. It was a love story that began in the hospital and later ended with years of devotion as a wonderful caregiver. She was a woman of strong character and such courage. They were blessed with two children, Carlene and Baaron. Her family has so many cherished memories of a precious mother who was so giving. She lived a full life enjoying graduations, marriages, grandchildren, even great grandchildren and all the blessings along the way. The last two years Velma found a new home at the Silver Arrow Retirement Community. Her life was so blessed with many friends. She loved going to the church, being the residing WI bowling champion. Skipo, movies, singing, and lots of good times. She was also preceded in death by her parents,Arthur and Lovie Grace (Wadley) Wescott; brothers, Floyd and Marvin Wescott; and sisters, Alma Gemmill and Bonnie Hammonns. Velma is survived by her children, Carlene Gulizio and husband, Mike and Baaron Hagood and wife, Sherrie; grandchildren, Michelle Hackett and husband, Austin, Jennifer Hagood Rahimi and husband, Chris, Lesleigh Dexter and husband, Clark, and Matthew Hagood and wife, Callie; great grandchildren, Franklin Rahimi, Kaleb Dexter, Kaydee Dexter, Carson Hackett; sisters, Elaine Barnes and Allene Prince; sister-in-laws, Doris Shipman, and Mima Horton and husband, Glen, and Betty Hagood; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Hammons.. Visitation will be held 2:00-9:00 PM Friday August 17, 2012 and family will greet from 6:00-8:00 PM at Floral Haven Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday August 18, 2012 at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel.
