Vernon Harmon's Obituary
Vernon Haynes Harmon, 80, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born in Wetumka, Oklahoma on October 11, 1945, to farmers Lloyd and Hazel Harmon.
At an early age, he met the love of his life, Linda Turner, on a blind date. They married on September 4, 1964, which they shared 61 years of marriage. Vernon graduated with his bachelor’s degree from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, and a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. He began his career in education as a science teacher in Ada, OK while completing work on his master’s degree then achieving his Administrator’s certificates from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He continued his career in education in many places but settled at Union Public Schools for 20 years (1978-1999), rising from Assistant High School Principal to his final position as Assistant Superintendent. Vernon raised his family in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He loved going to the lake, fishing, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors.
Vernon is predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Hazel Harmon and his brother William Harmon. Survived by his wife Linda Harmon, his daughters Shelley Phelps and Toni (Roger) Wright. Grandchildren Dakota (Terri) Phelps, Kiersten (Kody) Winslow, Makenna Phelps, Tabor Haws, Zane Phelps and Carissa Wright. Great-Grandchildren Kayne Winslow, Devon “Deuce” Thomas Jr, Kastle Winslow, twins Sophia and Lakelyn Phelps.
Day of celebration will be Thursday December 18th at 12:30pm at Floral Haven Funeral Home in Tulsa, Oklahoma with a reception to follow at the Floral Haven Family Center from 1:30pm-3:30pm.
