Virgie Hazel Howland's Obituary
Virgie Hazel (“Ginny”) Howland passed from this world on September 17, 2017. Ginny was born in Mannington, West Virginia, in 1923, as the youngest of eight children of Mary Alice and Martin Luther Cross. After moving to New York she worked as a riveter and riveting instructor with Grumman Aircraft during WWII and met Edward Howland. They later married and moved, with American Airlines, Ed’s employer, to Tulsa. There they raised their three children, John Howland and Janet Peden, both of Tulsa, and Robert Howland, of Las Vegas. Ginny and Ed owned several planes over the years and both were pilots. For many years after retirement, Ginny split her time between their homes in Cape Cod and Tulsa. Ginny was active in the Fellowship Congregational Church and in volunteering, including with Meals on Wheels and at the Children’s Medical Charities Association thrift shop. Ginny is survived by her children, by her grandchildren, Jason Peden, of Collinsville, Ashley Voss, of Broken Arrow, and Whitney Howland of Clayton, Missouri, and by her great-grandchildren, Tyler Peden, Alex Peden, Garrett Voss and Sawyer Voss. A memorial service will be held at 11: 00 on Saturday, September 23, at Fellowship Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donations to Children’s Medical Charities Association, the Tulsa Air & Space Museum or Planned Parenthood.
